Eoin May Reviews: Schrade Kinetic Folding Knife
Today, we’re back on the Schrade tip (see what I did there?) ….
As part of my series on each and every knife from Schrade’s new lineup, today I’m spotlighting the all-new Kinetic Folder, which is a new addition to Schrade’s Delta class of knives. The Kinetic Folder’s blade is a clip point style made from AUS-8 steel with grey finish, which has a high corrosion resistance and keeps a very high-quality edge. The blade measures in at a little over 3” long, and comes to a very slim tip. Even though the blade is pretty thin, it’s still very strong and durable. Due to the AUS-8 steel, the edge stays sharp and fine even in heavy use. As thin and refined as the tip is, I recommend you don’t go sticking it in a stump and trying to break it, because it might and then you will be sad.
The handle is a little over 4” long, which gives most people plenty room for a whole hand. The handle scales are made with Black G10 with a very ergonomic shape and feel. Though slim, while in the hand it still feels secure and very comfortable. Altogether, this knife gives a very sleek and fine feel. The slim and light profile of the blade means it can be easily concealed and comfortably carried.
I only have a few things I would change about this knife. First, the pocket clip is an upward facing pocket clip, which means the knife is facing upwards in your pocket opposed of downwards. Having an upward facing blade in my opinion just adds another step you have to do before being able to deploy the knife. The second thing I would fix would be the detent. A detent in a knife is the pressure you feel when you close the knife and before the knife deploys open. With a little bit stronger detent on this knife the blade would just fly open. The action is very smooth but due to the lack of detent your finger doesn’t build up enough pressure to fling the knife open. I love fast and smooth opening knives and with that little fix this knife’s action would be killer.
This knife may not look badass, but it definitely is a hidden gem. This knife would be great for anyone looking for a folder that has a very high-quality blade made with high-quality materials that doesn’t take up too much pocket space. Due to the newness of the knife, there isn’t a price that has been released but since it is in the Delta Class it definitely will be around $25, which is a steal. Stay tuned for more Schrade content and updates.
