Precision Clockwork: Swiss Phoenix Pistols Have Everything But the Toothpick

Let’s all take a moment to remember that the Austrians don’t have a monopoly on precision …

The Swiss are also renowned for their precision instruments; they’re just quieter about it. Are you familiar with Phoenix, a Swiss gunmaker? B&T USA is bringing that exacting engineering to American shores by importing two pistols from the Swiss manufacturer Phoenix. They’re called the Phoenix Redback and Phoenix Drake, both forged from the legendary Sphinx lineage. These hand-built pistols were crafted in Interlaken, Switzerland, to exacting boutique tolerances, delivering unmatched accuracy and durability, and now they’re shipping to U.S. dealers.

The Phoenix Redback, a 4.5-inch CZ75 inspired platform, features a cold-hammer-forged polygonal barrel, zero-play slide-to-frame interface, and tri-angled trigger geometry for a smooth double-action pull and crisp single-action break. With a quick-change optic plate system, modular G10 grips, and fully ambidextrous controls, the Redback transitions effortlessly between Production, Carry Optics and 3-Gun divisions. Endurance-tested by P.E. Ruud, a professional shooter in Norway, to over 200,000 rounds without a firearm-related malfunction, it offers rock-solid reliability to meet the demands of the most grueling match schedules.

The Phoenix Drake, a 5-inch evolution of the Redback, incorporates a Briley-style spherical bushing and full-length dustcover for enhanced recoil control and balance, allowing rapid follow-up shots that effortlessly remain on target. Compatible with Tanfoglio LF magazines, the Drake’s lightened slide reduces reciprocating mass without compromising precision, making it an ideal platform for competitive shooters. Like the Redback, it features a hand-fit slide-to-frame interface and modular options, including palm-swell grips and ambidextrous safeties, optimized for IPSC Standard and Production divisions.

“These pistols embody the discipline and detail that define Swiss firearms manufacturing,” said Chris Mudgett, VP of Marketing B&T USA. “The Redback and Drake are built for shooters who demand excellence yet require longevity and reliability.” The MSRPs on these handguns depend upon model and finish chosen; $6,000-$6,450 for the Drake, and $5,450-$5,800 for the Redback. While some folks can dish out 5-6000 at the drop of a hat, most of us can’t. Too bad, as this pistol looks rather cool. Still, not for me. I’ll keep my Spfd. Professional. Half the price, same fun.
