Kimber Revamp: Classic 1911 Now in “Next Generation”

Published

on

After three decades, Kimber is updating its legacy 1911s to be more like its new 2K11s.

When Kimber released its 2K11, it marked what many of us in the gun industry called the 1911’s “next generation.” The 2K11 has been so successful in the market that Kimber is taking several of the key features of the 2K11 and adding them to its classic 1911s. They’re calling it the Next Generation 1911 … and consumers could be forgiven for finding it a bit confusing.

The first question we had was whether these updates would run all the way across Kimber’s line of 1911s, and the answer appears to be “no.” All of Kimber’s legacy 1911s are still in production for sale. The “Next Generation” 1911 is a line of 1911s that’s separate from its legacy offerings AND its 2K11s.

So, what sets the Next Generation 1911 series apart? These new introductions are optics ready and feature an external extractor, different from the legacy internal design features on Kimber 1911s for over 30 years. This, plus the clean and crisp GT Trigger found on the 2K11 delivers a new level of reliability and performance from the next generation of Kimber firearms. These additional features plus the multi faced top strap from the 2K11 enhance reliability and aesthetics.

Kimber utilized the latest CNC technology to create precise slide-to-frame fitment that help promote very clean and modern aesthetics and give buyers highly customized attributes on their handgun right out of the box. All of this comes together to promote a reliable shooting experience and provide peace of mind that your Kimber will perform when needed every single time.

All models of the New Next Generation Kimber 1911 are 100% produced in the United States, and will ship with two magazines, as well as a Trijicon RMR footprint optics plate. To highlight this exciting introduction, a first production limited-edition of 500 pieces will be produced to commemorate this new lineup.

Pedi Gega, Director of Product Development and assembly and finishing stated, “The 2K11 has been so successful, that our customers have asked us to implement the same features into a family of Next Generation 1911s, so we listened, and we answered. I am extremely excited about introducing this product because we are elevating our performance across two categories now creating a renaissance for Kimber. We believe that the 1911 family platform will continue to be an anchor within our industry, and we are happy to provide our next generation models of the 1911 to a new generation of marksman.” MSRP $999; KimberAmerica.com.
