Where Does Your Carry Permit Actually Work? Bookmark This Map
Reciprocity: the patchwork of which states honor which CCW permits it is the single most confusing part of everyday carry. It shifts constantly with court injunctions, new interstate agreements, and the steady expansion of permitless carry. One wrong assumption and a routine road trip turns into a legal risk.
That’s why our sister site, Freedom’s Lodge, built the tool we now rely on for every trip: a free interactive Concealed Carry Reciprocity Map covering all 50 states and D.C.
Select the state that issued your permit and the map instantly color-codes the country with dark green for permitless carry (no permit needed), green where your permit is honored, amber for conditional situations, and red for states where you leave it locked in the trunk or worse. Tap any state for details, toggle the view to see whose permits a destination honors, or deep-link a specific state for quick reference. The data is verified against official state sources including statutes, state police, and attorney general pages, not forum lore or outdated spreadsheets. As of August 14, 2026, it reflects the current landscape, including the 29 permitless states.
Use it free, share it, download it, or even embed it. Treat it as your verified starting point, then confirm with the linked official sources before you travel. Check it out here: https://freedomslodge.com/concealed-carry-reciprocity-map/

Three things most carriers get wrong
- 29 states are now permitless — and all 29 extend it to visitors who can legally possess a handgun. But age floors differ (18 in some, 21 in others), and permitless does NOT mean rule-less.
- Your permit type matters. Several states honor only resident permits, or only enhanced versions (Idaho Enhanced, North Dakota Class 1, South Dakota Gold). The map flags every condition.
- Duty to inform is a patchwork. Some states require you to volunteer that you’re carrying on any stop; most only require answering honestly. The map’s state cards and the full reciprocity guide cover each one.
Before your next road trip: check the map, grab the free printable quick-reference PDF on your state’s gun-law page, and sign up for alerts when your state’s laws change. Carry smart out there.
Nothing here is legal advice — verify current rules with official state sources before carrying.
