Saddle up! Mesa Tactical’s Ultimate Tactical Shotgun Experience

Published

on

Earlier this year, Mesa Tactical introduced its reflex sight mount for Beretta semi-auto shotguns … but we needed more!

Priced affordably and incredibly well-built, the demand was high. “It has been a great seller and generated a lot of interest in similar mounts for Benelli platforms,” said Mitch Barrie, President of Mesa Tactical. Today, just a few short months later, Mesa is proud to announce that it has expanded the lineup, with ready-to-go mounts for both the Benelli M2 and M4 shotgun platforms.

These semi-auto shotguns are legendary in their ability to work in the most adverse conditions. They can take abuse and then ask for more. With that in mind, the engineers at Mesa had a great starting point to work from, making quality accessories that only enhance an already great platform.

When it comes to the new-generation semi-auto fighting shotguns, like the Beretta 1301 or Benelli M4, sometimes customization is sort of an afterthought. That’s where a company like Mesa Tactical shines. As the shotgun experts, they know that one way to increase a shooter’s capability with speed and accuracy is with the use of reflex (a.k.a. red-dot) sights. Most companies would have just made a Picatinny rail that mounts on top of the receiver and called it a day, but Mesa makes items for professionals. The drawback with a simple rail is that you then need another adapter that will clamp onto the rail, then mounting the red dot on the adapter. While this does work, it is not ideal, since now you have raised the red dot so far above the receiver and barrel that the red dot and factory iron sights do not co-witness. Mesa’s solution was to use a saddle approach.

The mount takes the unique approach of utilizing the factory receiver mounting points where the thicker part of the mount is. Mesa Tactical uses wings, sort of like a side saddle, that wrap the receiver—meaning extra stability. Then in the area that the red dot will sit, Mesa Tactical machines the mount down, essentially burying the red dot as close to the receiver as possible.

Sitting low and unobtrusive, the red dot is less likely to get caught and hung up on uniforms or slings. The red dot sits so low against the receiver that a Trijicon RMR will actually co-witness with the factory iron sights. This is especially important for a fighting shotgun where you want the redundancy of back up sights, but more importantly not having to waste time with a new sight picture or head position.

When I said the Mesa Tactical sights are affordable, I meant it: The normal every day price is $69.95. That’s the price of like five frappuccinos at your local pretentious coffee house!

If you want even more capability, Mesa Tactical offers a reflex sight mount with a built-in side SureShell carrier. This securely holds extra ammo on the side of the receiver ready to go, should you need to reload.
